  • Skara Brae

created on: Jun 20, 2010 | Rural Areas, Scotland

We started off today by going and seeing Skara Brae.  It was really interesting and I liked it a lot.  It’s older than the Egyptian pyramids- dating all the way back to 3100 B.C.   It made me realize that people then don’t live all that differently.  All our furniture isn’t made out of stone and there wasn’t any McDonalds then, but some things haven’t changed.  There were still beds, shelves, …

Thoughts from the morning: "So I really don't have much to say right now. I got up early this morning to give myself lots of time to pack, get ready, and get some breakfast. But it turns out that it doesn't take me that long to get ready, packing was easy, and nothing is open for breakfast on campus on Saturdays. (I was very sad about the breakfast thing.. I saved …

Free day in London!  So you know what that means- sleeping in of course!   I then decided to go for a run around London.  There was sunshine for once so I decided to take advantage of it.  I was going to go running in Hyde Park, but unfortunately my rail card had been lost so I was forced to stick around Hammersmith area.  Still it was a nice day for …

First thing we did this morning was go see the London Eye. Though it was rainy and foggy, it was quite spectacular; and just being able to view all of London was incredible. After leaving the Eye, a bunch of us decided to walk around and go find some food. We got some English breakfast before Mimi and I parted with the rest of the group to get one last …

Today we went to St. Paul’s Cathedral. At first I wasn’t really looking forward to it, but I’m glad we went. The Cathedral itself was quite vast and beautiful. What really stood out to me though were the Whispering, Stone, and Golden Galleries. To get to the Galleries you had to pay £3, but it was so worth it! The first set of stairs was about 257 to get to the …

We toured the Tower of London this morning. I didn’t really know what to expect as I had never really heard any information on the Tower, but it was quite cool. Basically, we were brought to the Tower and just set loose. It was quite big and housed several smaller buildings. There were even proper guards like you would see outside of Buckingham Palace! Mimi and I just kind of set …

Tuesday was my least favorite day of this trip so far. It was the day we were set for a tour of Oxford, which I had really been looking forward to. However, I woke up without any time to get ready or have a proper breakfast and the weather really just reflected my terrible mood. On top of that, we went to see Christ Church College (the garden was beautiful) …

Today was our first actual day in London. It was proper nice. Yesterday, we kinda settled in a bit. Mimi and I did some exploring (of course) around the hotel and the surrounding area of Hammersmith. Then us, Steve, Brian, Jill and Ashley went to dinner at a Chinese buffet. Quality food. Yesterday we also met Benny, a guide... of sorts. He says he's also going to Scotland and Ireland, so …

We left Inverness to make our way to the Orkney Islands, and although they may be colder, it’s supposed to be really scenic so I’m looking forward to it.  We spent the majority of our time on the bus today, going from site to site.  One of our first stops was to see the castle of Duke of Southerland.  It was a quick stop and we moved on to catch …

  • On my way to Scotland~

We left London today.  Although it’s a little bit sad to leave the grand city, I’m looking forward to the scenic Scotland.  We had a long train ride to Edinburgh, but it went by really fast.  I got really excited when I saw the sea out my window.  Scotland was living up to everything I thought it would be.  When we arrived we met Michael, who would be a tour …
