June 20

Today we left Scotland and flew to Ireland. The trip there though got off to a rocky start. We had problems with flying AerLingus due to our excessive amount of luggage I guess…but we finally got on the plane and was on our way to Ireland.  We flew into Dublin and had the afternoon free to explore the city on our own. This afternoon we found some lunch then headed to the Guinness factory for a tour. We then had some dinner and just rested and hung out the remainder of the evening.

This morning we started our tour all around Ireland with our tour guide. Our first stop was the Giant’s Causeway, which is a famous rock formation that we got to climb on and around. We then stopped at yet another castle, Dunluce castle. Tonight we are staying in the city of Derry. We checked into Travel Lodge earlier this evening then went to get some dinner at Wetherspoons(which was really cheap). We then headed to a bar with a live Irish band to hang out for a bit, which was a lot of fun.

This morning before leaving Derry, we had a tour of the city. Derry is famous for it’s history including Bloody Sunday. I felt very enlightened about some of the Irish history after this tour. After the tour we headed on our way towards the Grianan Ailligh which was a ring fort that we got to climb. From the top we could see some beautiful views of the countryside. It was so green!!! We then drove to Drumcliff to see the famous grave of W. B. Yeats. Tonight we are staying in Strandhill which is home to the European Surf Championships. Once we arrived here we had dinner and then I went out on the rocks near the water and watched a gorgeous sunset!!!! :)

Today we did a lot of driving thru Ireland. We got to see a bunch of beautiful landscape though as we drove around Ireland. We stopped by the National Famine Memorial which is in memory of the potato famine of 1845. The famine had a devastating effect on the population of Ireland. Later in the day we stopped by Aasleigh Falls to take some nice photos then by Kylemore Abbey to do the same. We stopped for some lunch in Clifton then headed towards Galway for the night. I love the city of Galway! I had a lot of fun tonight going to dinner tonight (We had Mexican!) then going to Quays for some live music. I loved the music and the atmosphere of the place and met some nice people from the other Shamrock tour while we were there. :)

This morning we got on a ferry to head to the Aran Islands (Inis Mor to be exact) We were able to rent bikes and bike around the island all day long. It was a blast! We biked and then walked up to Dun Aonghasa(which was an old Celtic fort). We were able to get right to the edge of the cliff and look straight down hundreds of feet! The island was very beautiful and it was a gorgeous day for a bike ride. Later, we came back to our hostel and had a bbq dinner and relaxed and hung out the rest of the evening.

Today was our last day in Ireland. This morning we took a ferry back from the Aran Islands then took some pictures at Dunguaire Castle. We got to climb the Burren Mountains, which are otherwise known at the “stretch marks” of Ireland then headed towards the Cliffs of Moher. These were amazing to see because they were so massive and beautiful. After that we headed to Ennis which is where we are staying tonight. We went out to get some last minute souveniers then went to a nice restaurant to celebrate our last night together overseas. Tomorrow we are waking up early to head back to the U.S! I leave at six in the morning to catch a shuttle to the Shannon Airport to catch my plane and head back to Jacksonville, Fl. This trip has been awesome and I am going to miss it!!!
