 Port de Barcelona

I just finished my first week at my internship.  Thankfully, the first week was not very demanding. I worked from about 10-1 every day at the law offices of Clau Legal (Clau is a Catalan word.  It is the same as "llave" in Spanish or "key" in English).  It's a small office with one lawyer, Adriana, and her assistant, Fatima.  The lawyer is very much like a professor and so far I have spent a lot of time learning about Spanish law and their constitution.  I also work with another student in the program Cristina, who is from Puerto Rico and is fluent in Spanish and can help me when I have a little trouble understanding everything.

After work I have followed the cultural lead and I usually eat lunch and take a siesta.  Afterwards, I have gone out sightseeing and eating with some other friends in the program.  So far I have seen a lot of the architecture of Gaudi, including the Sagrada Familia, walked up and down Las Ramblas, been to the Porturia de Barcelona, and saw a flamenco show.  Eating here has been an interesting experience.  First, the times that everyone eats are different.  Everything is later, especially dinner, which usually isn't until 9 or 10 at night.  Also eating at restaurants, the service can easily be perceived as bad or slow compared to what I am used to in the U.S., but everyone just eats much slower and takes more time to talk with the people they are with so the servers do not hurry to serve people and they rarely check in with you to see if everyone is doing ok. It is actually very nice once you get used to it and you are not expected to tip because people that work as servers get paid much better here.

Now I have a 3-day weekend ahead of me.  Tonight I think I will hit up the discotecas with some friends and hopefully get to the beach sometime this weekend.  Also, tomorrow is the start of the World Cup which everyone in Spain is very excited about.  Hope everyone else is enjoying their summers as well.  Hasta luego!

(P.S. I realize this is probably very boring and general to those of you reading this.  I will try to find a way to make this much more interesting reading in the future.)
